Book 2 in this spicy, unputdownable romantasy series.

Rhea has lost everything. The Great Sickness claimed her mother, her brother has been sent away, and the man she was falling for betrayed her. Now, with the kingdom on the brink of war, she bows to the blood magic controlled by her new fiancé, Crown Prince Torrin.

With no choice but to comply as he forces her to explore the depths of her newly-discovered magic, Rhea’s power grows with each mind she rips into. All the while, her mother’s cry for balance rings in her head.

Thorne and his friends are the most wanted men in Tarakona. Travelling as fugitives, the network orders that they begin to find others like himself and Rhea, who have magic when no one else does. The same mages the Crown is hunting.

For his entire life, Thorne has been fighting to return the magic the Youngbloods stole to the people of Tarakona. But now all he can focus on is fixing the worst mistake of his life.

He will go back for Rhea.

Kia ora and welcome to A Dove Editing

developmental editing

Looks at the big picture of your story, focusing on:

  • plot

  • character development

  • theme

  • point of view

  • pacing

  • tone and voice

  • tense

  • plot holes

  • narrative structure

  • setting

This is recommended for (at least) the first few books of an indie author’s journey. First books in a series should absolutely go through this process.

Edits come in the form of a report with comments on each of the bulleted aspects of your story.

WHAT TO EXPECT

I offer these services together because, to me, writing style, author voice, and grammar cannot be separated when I am editing.

Focuses on writing style, author voice, grammar, spelling, and punctuation. This includes pointing out:

  • telling not showing

  • awkward phrasing

  • passive voice

  • inconsistencies in plot points

  • wordy dialogue

  • incorrect grammar

  • consistency in author voice

  • consistency with capitalisation, hyphenation, and numerals as per the style guide of US or UK/Australian English

  • repetition

  • spelling errors

  • slow pacing

Edits come in the form of track changes on a Word document or a Google Doc.

For 2024, for a 50,000 word novel, the Editorial Freelancers Association reports the median cost of:

  • developmental editing is $1500-$2000

  • line editing is $1250-$2000

  • copy editing is $1000-$1500

  • proofreading is $600-$1000

Proofreading focuses on going through your manuscript with a fine tooth comb to fix all typographical and formatting errors, including:

  • checking chapter titles and page numbers against the contents page

  • sequencing

  • ensuring document formatting is consistent

  • double spaces

  • spelling errors

  • punctuation errors

Edits come in the form of track changes on a Word document or a Google Doc.

A Dove Editing:

  • developmental editing is only $85 per 10,000 words, for a total of $425 for a 50,000 word novel, for a savings of over $1000.

  • copy and line editing COMBINED is $100 per 10,000 words, equaling ENORMOUS savings for you.

  • proofreading is just $90 per 10,000 words, saving you at least $150.

Final pricing will depend on the length of the manuscript and the service or desired services. Prices can be negotiated for packaged services. Payment plans to suit your needs can be negotiated.
